Last month on June 21st zoos, schools, governments, institutions, companies and conservation organizations around the world hosted events to raise support and create awareness for giraffe in the wild.

Giraffes are listed as vulnerable to extinct on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. Giraffe numbers in Africa have plummeted by a staggering 40% over the last 30 years. We estimate today that there are fewer than 100,000 giraffe remaining in all of Africa.

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation has created World Giraffe Day on or around June 21st every year. Giraffe conservation is not just for June, you can get involved any time during the year by volunteering at the zoo or visiting www.giraffeconservation.org.
